Utilities Services
REMSA’s Utilities Services includes our innovative Fats, Oils and Grease (FOG) program, a seamless series of inspections and investigations developed to assure compliance of Food Service Establishments (FSE) with the recently added amendments of local city codes and regulations regarding the initiation of FOG programs. Most of these programs focus on the continued education of FSEs in the kitchen Best Management Practices (BMP); as well as inspection and data collection for grease control devices (GCD), including GCD use, sizing, maintenance and general code compliance. In September 2007 a Special Order by Consent (SOC) was issued by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality to reduce Sanitary Sewer Overflows (SSOs). This Consent Decree, similar to many others being enacted throughout the country, will enhance the ability to meet the public health needs in various municipalities and return clean water to our environment.
REMSA provides many different levels of expertise in either coordinating or managing your FOG program. From initial FOG Program start-up training to general field inspector training as well as conducting a full-scale FOG program, REMSA will provide you with exactly what your municipality’s needs call for. Our responsibilities can include, but are not limited to: performance of the required field operations (GCD inspections and investigations), oversight/management and scheduling, personnel training (in-house or at a REMSA facility), data collection and review, database management, writing your municipality ordinance and monthly and annual summary reporting.
All work will be performed in accordance with the applicable state, local, federal, Occupational Health and Safety Administration and Health Department Regulations. In addition, we offer the opportunity through the City of Virginia Beach to permit contract adoption to other Hampton Roads municipalities.
Our inspectors and staff are fully trained and experienced professionals. We staff licensed master plumbers who all are certified Commercial Plumbing Inspectors through the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development and the International Code Council (ICC). Our inspectors also hold State of Virginia Department of Transportation Flagging Certifications in order to provide traffic control operations for work being done where roadway closures are necessary.
REMSA’s Program Coordinator holds her FOG Management Training Certification with the Florida Industrial Pretreatment Association (FIPA) as well as the Hampton Roads Planning District Commissions (HRPDC) Regional Grease Haulers and FSE Certifications.
REMSA conducts full service FOG Program activities for Privately Owned Treatment Works (POTW) and onsite FOG training programs. REMSA's FOG program allows POTWs and other departments to understand the impact of a proper program and the effects of Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) prevention, sewer maintenance, odor control, stormwater impacts, code enforcement, ordinance creation, and database & form maintenance.
FOG Program Options
Each municipality is different, so FOG programs are developed based on specific needs. Generally, REMSA FOG programs include working with the municipality in planning and coordinating initial FOG training classes, and we can contour your FOG Program from the basic start up and training to running your full-scale FOG Program.
Backflow Prevention Program
In addition to our FOG Program, REMSA's Utilities Service Team also can provide you with similar services for your Backflow Prevention Program including: site investigation, data collection and verification, and backflow device testing. Our inspectors and Licensed Master Plumbers have completed the Basic Backflow Prevention Device Worker Training at a DPOR-approved institution.
Should your municipality choose to use these services we can design a program in conjunction with your FOG Program or as a separate program unique to your needs.
Storm Drain Covers
REMSA currently is under a long-term contract with the City of Virginia Beach to provide individualized storm drain markers for several different areas in the city.
