Dennis Papa is a board certified and licensed Professional Engineer and Professional Geologist. He holds a B.S. in Geology from The Pennsylvania State University and an M.S. in Environmental Engineering from Virginia Tech. His experience includes project and program management with technical expertise in hazardous materials management, water quality, hydrogeology, environmental site assessment and remediation, and brownfields redevelopment for commercial, industrial, and federal clients. Dennis is well versed in client management and developing long-term, positive relationships. During his 24 year career, he has performed remedial investigation & feasibility studies at 13 Superfund sites, and was in charge of technical guidance and quality assurance, strategic direction, and initial hiring and personnel management for the environmental services division of a top A/E consulting firm, and later became an associate for a global environmental engineering firm.
Recent projects include managing the City of Hampton, VA brownfields assessment grant to address more than 50 properties in the city’s brownfield zone and securing two new assessment pilot grants in 2009. His project and program management experience includes environmental compliance for Fortune 500 industries, municipalities, schools, federal and military facilities, and a variety of transportation, maritime and marine/coastal assignments that have involved a number of technical disciplines.
Dennis enjoys all types of sports, and counts fishing, kayaking, painting and photography among his hobbies. He has been active in membership and/or Board of Directors positions in the local chapters for several professional societies including National Groundwater Association (NGWA), Water Environment Federation (WEF), Society of American Military Engineers (SAME), Air & Waste Management Association, and American Society for Testing & Materials (ASTM) Environmental Assessment committee.
