We are looking for a senior-level wetland and water quality permitting scientist to become part of our environmental services team. REMSA offers a friendly, interdisciplinary place to work. We are seeking a bright, motivated, energetic, and well-rounded individual to help build our Environmental Services Division within our Corporate Headquarters centrally located in downtown Hampton, VA. JOB DESCRIPTION: Growing Environmental division of a Hampton based environmental engineering and sciences consulting firm is seeking a proven leader in water quality, wetlands, and storm water permitting and regulatory compliance to expand existing business opportunities for a respected small business with a 25-year reputation for quality service to federal, municipal, and private clients. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: • Develop opportunities and manage/perform wetland and stream determinations/delineations and restoration according to USACE protocol and surveys for various species for biological and hydrological projects. • Manage/Perform field work such as vegetation assessments, habitat assessments, monitor construction activities, and perform inspections of storm water BMPs • Prepare General and Individual USACE Permit submittals relating to Sections 10 and 404 of the Clean Water Act • Utilize computer software such as ESRI, ArcMap 9.3, ArcGIS Server, ArcIMS, AutoCAD, Google Earth, Microsoft products to include Word, Excel; Internet Explorer; Access; and Adobe • Prepare technical reports, compliance documents, NEPA documents (CE, EA, EIS) • Operate equipment such as GPS, Laser Range Finders; Transit Levels • Additional duties will involve participation in the preparation of sampling and analysis plans, field investigation reports, and data management, compilation, manipulation, and evaluation. • Desired ability to work independently and in a group, and interact with clients in communicating results and assignments as well as developing additional business. Requirements:
Education: Minimum of Undergraduate degree in an applicable field (e.g., biology, ecology, wetlands sciences, natural resources management, geography, or a closely related environmental or ecological science), with strong understanding of regulation of wetlands and other jurisdictional waters. Experience: Ten plus (10+) years of professional experience in the private sector or environmental consulting in Virginia, including a minimum of 5 years as project or task manager for reports and field efforts. Certifications: OSHA 40-hour Health and Safety, Professional license (or ability to obtain) and a valid Driver’s License. Skills: • Demonstrated training and experience conducting wetland delineations in compliance with US Army Corps of Engineers guidance, and communicating with regulators at USACE, USFWS, and VDEQ. • Proficiency with Clean Water Act Permitting and Chesapeake Bay Preservation Ordinances • Proven experience in preparing Joint Permit Applications • Exceptional verbal communication and writing skills

JOB DESCRIPTION: The successful candidate will be part of a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, scientists and business professionals providing a variety of services to both government and commercial clients. Requirements:
Education: Minimum of B.S. degree in Geology, Hydrology, Environmental Engineering, or Environmental Science Experience: 3 - 7 years Certifications: OSHA 40-hour Health and Safety, Professional license (or ability to obtain) and a valid Driver’s License. Skills: • Knowledge of Brownfield program • Strong computer skills including MS Office Suite (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word) • Familiarity with specialized programs used for basic soil, groundwater, & risk assessment modeling • Ability to interact with clients to communicate technical information • Previous experience performing fieldwork • Capable of working independently and as part of a team • Experience with environmental issues and regulations • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written • Ability to solve problems as they arise • Professional demeanor and the ability to interact with people from a variety of different backgrounds. • Ability to take direction and then follow through until a job is completed

Our primary goal is to facilitate marine related activity while supporting national, state and local conservation efforts. REMSA Inc. has been in business since 1986, our Marine Endangered Species Observer Program (MESO) was established in 1999 as a service to dredge companies to provide government approved observers in support of hopper dredge and other offshore operations. Observers are independent contractors that are skilled at monitoring sea turtles, marine mammals, sturgeon and birds. JOB DESCRIPTIONS: Marine Endangered Species Observers Observers will conduct marine endangered species observations aboard dredges in various waterways along the east coast and Gulf of Mexico in the U.S. Observers work in 12-hour shifts and are responsible for maintaining a bridge watch while reporting any interaction with endangered species to the Army Corps of Engineers and the National Marine Fisheries Service. Previous approval by the National Marine Fisheries Service as an observer is a plus. Knowledge of marine mammal and/or sea turtle identification is required. Job specific training will be provided for endangered species observers. Bird Monitoring Observers Need extensive avian experience identifying bird species, nesting behaviors, eggs and nests and habitat requirements. REQUIREMENTS US Citizenship is required ***CANDIDATES WHO ARE ALREADY APPROVED BY National Marine Fisheries Service ARE ENCOURAGED TO APPLY*** • B.S. in Marine Biology or related field (one year of specialized experience, performed at an acceptable level, may substitute for educational experience) • Extensive hands-on experience with sea turtles • Data collecting and recording biological sampling and protected marine species identification • Physically capable of lifting objects weighing 50lbs, climbing in an out of tight spaces and up and down ladders aboard ships • Able to work on ships at sea for approximately 3-4 weeks at a time • Be adapted for a life at sea (not susceptible to motion sickness, be able to live in confined work spaces, be able to tolerate stress and physically able to move around ships) • The ability to work closely with others and the requirement to be physically fit cannot be overemphasized. The close quarters and rigors of shipboard life can be taxing to some and dangerous to others. • Able to work independently while following technical instructions • Able to get along well with diverse individuals • Maintain objectivity

This is a position as an independent contractor. Salary varies with project location and scope.
